The Bike Industry and Blogging

Well my offer to Johnathon Maus of the Just Riding Along Blog and Box and One Communications turned down my offer for joining the Crooked Cog network. I can understand his reasoning as, well, he is already a 'somebody' in the bike industry and sure as hell doesn't need my help. That aside, I got to talk with him on the phone some last week and we are both on the same page as far as blogging, long tail, Godin, etc. This page being the one that about 95% of the rest of the bike industry is not on. So his goal is to drag as many people as he can into the 21st century.

I think this is a brilliant move on his part. He already has a ton of contacts in the industry and as people start to see the light for the new age of marketing, he will have positioned himself as the expert in the field. I look for him to eventually get a windfall of business as a result of his evangilizing and blog.

What does this mean for Crooked Cog? Well it is currently, from what I know, the only bike blog network out there. Google 'mountain bike blog' and Blue Collar pops up first. So as the industry realizes the importance of blogs, I will be a front runner in their interest for advertising.

Apart from Crooked Cog, I let John know that I am interested in helping him out with Box and One. I am pretty good with web programming and I am pretty durn familiar with blogging and what it entails so maybe I could be some kind of consultant or something that could help out.

Don't know where all this is leading but I'm looking forward to finding out.
