Pet Insurance Gains Popularity

Gaines and Dr. Patricia Kennedy, director of Jefferson Animal Hospital and Jefferson Animal Hospital East, believe health insurance is a prudent investment for all pet owners, especially when their animals are young, because premiums are cheaper then and recurring illnesses...are covered so long as the policy is renewed.

"I think it's a no-brainer," said Kennedy, whose Okolona hospital is the only 24-hour veterinary trauma center in the area. "It's excellent insurance, and it pays for itself over the long run."

Like Kennedy, Gaines encourages his clients to seriously consider insuring their pets.

"In veterinary medicine, just like any other medicine, the cost of providing quality care is getting higher all the time," Gaines said. "One of the ways that owners are going to be able to cope with that is with pet insurance.
