Liability Insurance Sought for Animal Sanctuaries
Whittier Daily News: "As a West Covina man lies in a medically induced coma following a chimpanzee attack, a movement is percolating among state lawmakers mandating that animal sanctuaries carry liability insurance to operate...The Davises do not have medical insurance. And the operators of Animal Haven do not have liability insurance to help the Davises recoup the cost of his care....Now, two local lawmakers are working on legislation to make liability insurance mandatory. 'Regulations need to be tighter,' he said. 'People operating sanctuaries think they don't need it because nothing will happen. They put their resources someplace else because they do not care about the public.'"
